Yavoriv painting ("verbivka" – something
that resembles a shape of the willow tree) is one of the unique elements of
folk art, the roots of which go back to the 18th century in Lviv Region.
Yavorivsky paintings has its own set of distinctive features among the other local styles of paintings (flowers, rosehip, stars, corollas, ducks, humps, fleks, dashes, etc.) that can be distinguished.
Yavoriv painting has a distinct set of traditional
colours, each of which has its own set of symbols.
Yellow is the sun, red represent berries and flowers,
blue is the sky. Green colour means everything that surrounds us – trees, grass
and nature.
Yavoriv painting has its own ancient traditions.
In the majority of cases, it was used to decorate
chests, as well as wooden toys – horses, butterflies, birds, prams, that were
called "zabavky" (playthings).
