KOSIV PAINTING

Authentic Kosiv painting is a technique of decorative ceramic painting from the city of Kosіv, Ivano-Frankivsk region, which later developed into a separate tradition at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.

 The decoration technology of Carpathian ceramics called – "rytuvannya" (engraving) – is unique and has no analogues.

 First, the piece that is covered with white clay, is fired in the kiln, then it is painted, after that it is covered with a transparent glaze and at the end it is fired in the kiln again.

 Kosiv painting is recognizable due to its special flavour and graphical motifs.

Masters used a limited number of colours: white, green and various shades of ochre, from light yellow to brown. Blue droplets are less common.
